The Best Mopping Robot | Top 6 & Helpful Buyers Guide

Robot mop technology is just getting better, becoming more innovative and reliable every year. With this post, I want to help you find the best robot mops for you.

The robotic mop market has been slow progress due to the numerous challenges robotic mops have to overcome, the biggest being a reliable onboard water tank.

Over the years, shoppers have settled for robot vacuums that wet mop, but as you may or may not know, they generally don’t do a great job of wet mopping.

Many of today’s robot mops have been designed to deliver damp mopping that is safe for all types of floors, from tile and vinyl to hardwood.

Some provide a full-on jet stream, while others rely solely on microfiber cloths and the small, steady water application from an internal water tank.

The iRobpot Braava 240 is among The Best Mopping Robot

Most will also perform some light sweeping to get rid of minor debris, and yes, there is some advanced hybrid robot vacuum cleaner that doubles as a pet hair vacuum, but that is for a different post.

I have put together this list showing you the best robot mop on the market as well as some handy buying tips so that you can easily decide which one is best for you.

But first, let’s clear something up …

Why a robot mop is better than a robotic vacuum that mops

While that may be confusing, the difference between robot mops and a robot vacuum and mop is very simple.

A dedicated robot mops is a cleaner construction designed specifically for hard floors. It will tend to have both a microfiber cloth and a fluid dispenser of clean water.

Whether the fluid is deposited directly onto the cloth, or through a spray nozzle to the floor, it makes lifting stains more efficient.

As per the image above, robot vacuums cleaners that claim to mop just tend to have a cloth added to the rear end that just wipes the floor. Some of these will contain small water tanks, but not usually.

Some of them will have interchangeable tanks and dustbins which tends to be a bit better, but fundamentally, a mopping robot is designed to mop, a robot vacuum cleaner is designed to vacuum. If you want the best possible performance, it stands to reason that separate devices would be the best robot mop option.

The Shinebot W450 from ILIFE is one of my favorite robot mops on the market at the moment and is perfect for home use.

This smart mopping robot carries out effective cleaning of floors and carpets, so you don’t have to! The W450 navigates the rooms systematically with the Panoview scanner, ensuring everything is cleaned and avoids repeating areas.

With ILIFEHOME App it’s easy to control this product remotely – change its speed or alter how wet it cleans your floor with just one click!

The specially designed TidalPower Cleaning System ensures that floors are dry within 1 minute meaning less waiting time after mop-time (also saving on electricity).

One of the robot’s stand-out features is the dual water tanks that ensure only clean water is used for the wet mopping part and dirt water is swiftly lifted back into the robot and stored in the 2nd tank.

The spinning scrubbing brush does a fantastic job of lifting dirt and grime off the floor as the trailing squeegee adds a nice finishing touch to ensure the floors are left clean and streak-free.

2.  iRobot Braava Jet m6 – Smartest robot mop

iRobot Braava Jet m6 (6110) Ultimate Robot Mop- Wi-Fi Connected, Precision Jet Spray, Smart Mapping,...

Read our full iRobot Braava Jet m6 review

There is no doubt in my mind that the iRobot Braava Jet m6  is currently one of the best robot mops on the market. Aside from the cleaning, it has many of the smart features, such as smart navigation technology and self-docking, that other mops do not have. But, it comes at a price, it is also the most expensive.

Its small size, 3.5 by 10.0 by 10.6 “(H.W.D), gives it the required compactness to move around your house unimpeded as the precision spray nozzle on the front wets your floor before cleaning.

The Braava jet m6 robot vacuum uses the iRobot Home app to connect to your phone. This allows you to issue voice commands, see cleaning maps and even control your robot mop directly. Great if you need spot cleaning.

The Braava jet m6’s onboard navigation mapping improves in accuracy the more often it cleans, and through the app, you can set which rooms to clean, which to skip, schedule cleanings when you are away from home.

Unlike iRobot Braava jet 240 (more on that one in a moment), which is designed to mop smaller spaces like in kitchens and bathrooms, Braava Jet m6 is intended for mopping on the general floor.

A fully recharged lithium-ion battery powers the iRobot Braava Jet m6 for up to 150 minutes of use. That’s enough to clean a lot of floors. What’s more, this is the only robot in this list that features a return to docking station feature. Most robot mops do not have a return to home feature.

The iRobot Braava Jet m6, as you can see, should be your number one choice when it comes to excellent mopping activities at your home. Thanks to its camera and sensors which make it display its expert chops of navigation. Easier ground cleaning with iRobot Braava Jet m6.

TICK-1

  • It’s Compatible with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant.
  • Quite Small.
  • Solid navigation capabilities.
  • Returns to dock when the battery life is low.
CROSS

  • Deep stains still require some elbow grease.

3. Everybot Edge – iRobot Braava alternative

EVERYBOT 'Edge', Powerful Autonomous Smart Robot Mop for All Kinds of Hard Floor Care and Cleaning...

Read our full Everybot Edge review

The Everybot Edge robot vacuum is an elegant home technology solution that works to keep surfaces as clean as possible with certain expertly designed functionalities.

The Everybot Edge comes complete with multiple optimized cleaning modes. While the two onboard water tanks provide water for the pads to ensure that they don’t dry out during cleaning.

It is a home appliance that works to clean hard floors wet and dry. But a feature I love about the Everybot Edge, that the iRobot mops are missing, is a Handheld Mode to get deep into crevices and even windows and walls.

The Everybot Edge’s movement is controlled without wheels. It runs on two round, rotating microfiber pads driven by two separate motors; therefore, the robot cleans the floor while shuffling quietly.

The downside of this robot is the lack of any navigation, while it cleans in patterns and has anti-collision sensors, it’s not exactly smart so can miss spots.

However, if you can’t afford the premium features of the iRobot Braava M6, this is still a solid robot vacuum for a very fair price.

TICK-1
  • Dual Spin Mop cleaners
  • Water supply system
  • Cliff detection sensors
  • Obstacle detection sensor
  • Patented microfiber mopping pad
CROSS
  • Small water tank

4. iRobot Braava Jet 240 – Great cheap robot mop

Read our full iRobot Braava Jet 240 review

The Braava Jet 240 is a tiny robot that sweeps and mops floors. Also, it is the least expensive option in the lineup of iRobot.

The Mopping Robot iRobot Braava jet delivers fresh, clean flooring every day. Braava jet mops and sweeps hard-to-reach places with its compact, smart design and iAdapt 2.0 Navigation system, such as under the kitchen cabinets and around toilets. Just attach a Braava jet Cleaning Pad, and the robot will automatically customize the cleaning according to the type of mopping pad.

The Precision Jet Spray and the Vibrating Cleaning Head tackle dirt and stains in wet mop and damp sweeping modes. Braava jet traps in dry sweeping mode and locks away dust, dirt, and pet hair. Braava jet cleans hard floors that include hardwood, tile, and stone.

It’s quite simple to set this robot vacuum up. All you need to do is put the removable battery inside the machine and choose the correct mode. You can then let the sensors do their job to prevent it from running onto carpets or falling down the stairs.

Once its cleaning is complete, you will need to remove the battery and charge it separately from the machine, which can be a little bit of trouble, especially if you forget to do it. The battery life of Braava Jet 240 is quite impressive.

TICK-1
  • Quiet and Small
  • Long battery life
  • Multiple cleaning modes, including wet mopping, damp sweeping, and dry sweeping
  • Very affordable
CROSS
  • Small coverage area
  • Tough stains required manual intervention in testing
  • Additional cleaning pads can get expensive

5. Samsung Jetbot – Most stylish

Read our full Samsung Jetbot review

The Samsung Jetbot mop is a super smart-looking mopping robot that automatically navigates around your home while avoiding obstacles, providing a quick and efficient way to make mopping a part of your every day clean.

It cleans all flooring types, including tile and hardwood, with the Jetbot mop’s powerful Dual Spin technology. Two pads spinning at high-speed rates allow the unit to move, turn, and clean simultaneously. Samsung Jetbot mop does have eight different cleaning modes.

Its double solution tanks allow the Samsung Jetbot mop to run for up to 50 minutes without any need to refill, dispersing just enough water or water-based floor cleaning solution, to keep the pads thoroughly moisturized while minimizing the amount of drying time.

It goes the extra mile to clean corners precisely and safely while avoiding walls, carpeting, furniture, or objects, thanks to the Jetbot mop’s smart sensors. The system even stops the unit from dropping off steps or stairs, ensuring risk-free operation.

However, there is one drawback, when compared to the other robot mops in this list, the cleaning isn’t quite as good. It really does need to be run every day to keep on top of the condition of your floor and even then you may notice smears.

But, it does look amazing!

Read our full iRobot Braava Jet 380t review

The new iRobot Braava Floor Mopping Robot, designed to mop floors quickly and efficiently, systematically covers all of your floors in a single pass. It is the best robot mop for single-room cleaning.

The Braava 380t uses disposable or microfiber cleaning cloths to pick up dirt, hair, and dust from all of your hard surface floors, including tile, vinyl, hardwood, and laminate.

It has advanced robotic technology to track where it has been and where it needs to go, just attach a cloth, set Braava down, press a button, and off it goes.

It is also a silent whisper, so you can go about your daily activities without interruption.

The Turbo Charge Cradle included is a convenient, one-stop charging and storage space that charges Braava 380t in as fast as two hours.

As briefly mentioned, the iRobot Braava 380t uses either disposable cleaning towels, including the Swiffer brand, or reusable microfiber towels to remove dirt, powder, and hair from your floors.

It has two modes of cleaning to choose from, depending on the job you need to do. Braava dry mops your floors in sweep mode, using dry cleaning cloths to move in straight lines. Braava uses a special back and forth mopping action in mop mode, and damp cleaning cloths to lift dirt from the surface and grime off your floors.

The iRobot Braava 380t is like a big brother (or sister) to the Braava 320 from iRobot. The Braava 320 costs $100 less, on average, but the 380t has a bigger battery with faster charging, cleaning capabilities from room to room, a pause button, a quick clean mode, and a furniture-protecting bumper.

Mopping robot buying guide

As you can see from our review of the top 6 Mopping Robots, there are many different products on the market, and they all have unique features of their own.

Because every home is different, you need to think carefully about exactly what type of home you have, your cleaning requirements, and what type of robot cleaner you need.

There are a number of key things you should look for when buying a robot mop:

Ease of set up and maintenance

The easier it will be to charge the robot mop, fill and empty the water tank, remove or replace the cleaning pads and set it up to clean once or regularly.

App integration

If you like to see what your robot is up to, access maintenance issues, or schedule cleaning sessions in advance or while you’re away, this is helpful.

You can also set up no-go zones that should not be cleaned via an app, instead of blocking the space manually.

Smart navigation features

When buying a mopping robot, you must consider the fact of it has a navigation feature. Robot mops navigate around furniture, walls, and other obstacles using a collection of sensors. Fortunately, many robot mops come with some sort of virtual boundaries that you can position to keep the robot out of trouble between hard flooring and carpeting.

Battery life

Battery life correlates to how much a robot mop can cover in a single charge. We’ve found one hour to be the sweet spot for most apartments and condominiums, but a minimum battery life of 90 minutes is recommended for larger homes. Look for rechargeable batteries that last at least 90 minutes of minimum battery life. If you have a larger space to clean, look for robot mops that recharge and resume, returning after charging to where they stopped cleaning to finish the job.

Carpet and floor sensor

If you have a mixture of carpet and wooden floor, select a robot mop that can determine the difference. Some robot mops have mapping features that allow you to clean only some specific areas.

What type of floor does the robot mop clean?

Different devices are advertised as being able to clean different floor types, make sure you choose a device that will clean all of the floor types in your home.

Weight

The heavier the mop, the more work it will be picking it up, transporting it between rooms, and storing it away after cleaning. If you are buying for an elderly relative this may be a bigger consideration.

Size

This is particularly important if you must clean under cabinets or in tight corners. Smaller devices will navigate these tight spaces far more easily than larger equivalents.
