WORX is one of the leading brands for garden and outdoor power equipment. For over a decade now, this brand has been waxing stronger with an impressive number of useful and high-quality tools, and the best part is that their range of products are very budget-friendly.
Why the WORX WR140 Landroid is worth checking out?
WORX launched the latest model of WORX WR140 Landroid M in the spring of 2019. Ever since this robotic lawn mower has come to be one of the top sellers for 2020 and beyond. And here’s why.
Landroid is a smart machine built to operate autonomously, it automates the lawn mowing and maintenance process. The WORX WR140 is designed to work on a relatively small yard of quarter-acre without human assistance (and there are other models that are suitable for a larger acre garden too).
This robot lawn mower weighs 21 pounds and has three wheels. With them, it’s able to handle both flat, tough terrains and slopes of up to 20o. And with a floating deck design it’s able to travel through slopes and hilly lawns without striping off the surface of the yard.
Landroid uses three cutting blades attached to a spinning disc to cut and mulch grasses. At the top of this robotic mower is a hatch that opens to reveal a 9-button control panel with a 2.5-inch LCD and a red Stop button. At the rear you’ll find a cover that encloses the battery compartment.
The features of state-of-the-art technology
Rain sensor and ACS technology
The robotic mower is also equipped with rain sensors and it’s able to detect changes in the weather to know when rain is coming. If the WORX WR140 is already working and senses rain, it’ll head back to its docking station to wait out the rain.
The default Rain Delay time is 180 minutes but you can change this setting time via Landroid App or using the control panel. It is best to allow the grasses to dry properly before sending out your mower because this mower doesn’t do well on wet grass.
It is also able to sense objects and obstacles on its path, thanks to the Anti-Collision System (ACS). When it senses an obstacle, it turns in a different direction to avoid a head-on collision, and if it accidentally bumps into something it draws back and continues in another direction.
Avoiding off-limits areas
You can also get a digital fence which you can use to cordon off trees and flower beds on your lawn, creating small islands that the robot will avoid. All you have to do is set up the boundaries and the mower will stay in line as it takes care of yard work.
Safety features and Find My Landroid Robotic Mowers
The Landroid mower also has a number of safety features to prevent accidents. For instance, it knows when it’s lifted off the ground and it immediately stops rotating its blade disc in response to this, this way it prevents a terrible accident.

How The WORX WR140 Landroid Works
Once the Landroid is installed on your lawn, getting it to work is very simple and straightforward. You can either operate it through the control panel or use the app. The control panel is very intuitive but the WORX Landroid app is even easier.
The device leaves its charging base when it’s time to mow, and following the guidance of the installed perimeter wire, it cuts and mulches the grasses on your lawn while scattering the grass clipping on the garden to provide nourishment to the lawn.
How much progress will the robot mowers do in one charge?
It works for almost 2 hours before heading back to the charging base for a recharge, its charging time is 90 minutes. With a full battery, the Landroid will automatically resume mowing till the job is complete, then it travels back to the charger to wait for the next mowing schedule.
WORX Landroid also takes care of your lawn edges, once a week (usually on Mondays), it mows the grass along the edges of your lawn. This robot mower is programmed to trim this way by WORX but you can change this setting and program it cut edges more than once a week via the control panel or mobile app if you’re on Wi-Fi.
Normally robot mowers leave a string of grass at the edges of the lawn which you’ll have to manually trim, but with this edge maintenance you’ll have very little or no trimming to do.
Although the Landroid is built to be 100% waterproof, it doesn’t do too well on wet grass and the cutting result is less than excellent.
WORX Landroid M Performance
These tools simply make for an excellent automatic mowing machine. The Landroid starts at one edge and mows in a straight line until it’s stopped by the boundary wire marking another edge, then it dutifully turns around and continues in a different direction.
As it mows, the cutting disc mulches the grass into tiny clipping and scatters them on the lawn. Once or twice a week (actually this depends on how to set it), it mows along the perimeter wire to give your lawn well-trimmed edges. the cut to edge feature is something that not all mowers offer, which is yet another reason why the Landroid is a great product.
The WORX Landroid app creates a daily mowing schedule to suit the size of your lawn, but you can adjust this to what you think is best. On a full charge, the Landroid will mow for about 1.5 to 2 hours before heading back to the charging station for a recharge.
Areas where these robotic lawn mowers are lacking
It does a great job of keeping a lawn neat and well-trimmed, but it comes with its flaws, which isn’t a surprise. Occasionally, the boundary wire fails to stop it and the robot mower slips out of the lawn. When this happens, the Landroid will need to be rescued and placed back on the lawn.
Also, if your lawn is uneven with holes or tight spots, this may create navigation difficulties for the Landroid because it may get stuck in them.
Although the Landroid mower can wiggle itself out of holes and tight spots by spinning its wheels in different directions if this fails expect to get a notification on your smartphone app to come to rescue the robot. In a time like this, being able to use a remote control would be nice.
The good news is that this doesn’t have to e too much of an issue. Once you get it back on its feet, it’ll continue to progress through your yard and cut the grass anywhere on the ground that it has missed.
All things considered…
This lawn bot is an excellent machine, and perhaps the best version of the Landroid. It may have its flaws, but overall, this robot lawn mower does an excellent cutting job and will keep your lawn neat and well-trimmed.
Ease Of Set-up And Use
Installing the WORX Landroid robotic lawnmower on your lawn is pretty straightforward if you have a simple garden, but it can be complicated and difficult with a complex lawn.
Do you need to hire an expert to set up your WORX WR140 mower?
You may want to hire a WORX professional to handle the installation and nicely set up your Landroid, but the setup process isn’t really as difficult as it seems. Anyone with little or no technical skills can do it, it only requires that you be careful and patient.
How to set up the boundary wire
The WORX WR140 Landroid comes with a user’s manual containing step-by-step instructions on how to properly lay down the perimeter wire and wire ground pins or pegs for keeping the perimeter wire in place, makin it much easier for a user to get the job done.
Before placing the perimeter wire, first analyze your lawn to determine where and how best to place the wire. If your lawn has areas you’ll like to freeze off like flower beds and trees, you’ll need to take them into account and mark out how you can properly run the wire to isolate those areas. While doing the actual work you may need an extra pair of hands.
What do you get with the product?
To make installation and use as easy as possible, the following materials are included in the WR140 package; 180m (590ft) perimeter wire, 1 charging base, 8 lawn screws to secure the charging base station, 2 wire repair connectors, 1 boundary wire distance gauge, 1 20V 4.0Ah battery, 3 spare blade kits, a user’s guide with detailed instructions, etc.

Cleaning out the mower
To keep the WORX WR140 mower in top shape you need to make sure it’s neat by periodically removing grass clippings and debris from the body, wheels and cutting deck. This is to prevent a build up of grass and debris. It’s important to also remove grass clippings and debris from contact pins and charge strips.
To maintain a neatly cut lawn, the blades of your Landroid need to always stay very sharp. Check the blades at least once a month to make sure they’re still very sharp and replace them when necessary. When the blades will need replacement depends on how big or small your lawn is and how often you mow.
As a guide, WORX recommends that the razor blades of your Landroid be replaced every 4 months, thankfully these products come with extra 9 replacement blades.
The battery of your WORX Landroid model also needs to be taken care of and before you start performing any maintenance like washing the wheels, chassis and cutting deck with spraying water and brush, remove the battery. The 20v Lithium Ion Battery that comes with WORX robotic lawn mowers can last between 3-5 years depending on usage.
The Landroid has rain sensors and it’s weatherproof but in extreme weather conditions like a lightning storm, you’ll have to protect it by making sure it’s not charging. You also have to disconnect the boundary wire and unplug the charging base.
The lawn mower also needs proper storage in the winter season. Clean up the Landroid, remove the battery and store it in the Landroid garage or dry place over the winter.
What’s The Difference Between The WORX WR140 And WR150?
Both the WORX WR140 (Landroid M) and WR150 (Landroid L) are WORX Landroid models. With these premium gadgets, WORX aims to take the hard work out of grass cutting and lawn maintenance.
These robotic mowers have very similar designs and features including auto set-and-forget, edge cutting, useful mobile app, rain sensor, and GPS tracking.

As the smaller mower, WR140’s cutting width size is 7 inches with adjustable cutting levels of 1.9 to 3.5 inches. Of these two robot mowers, WR150 is more suitable for heavy-duty work and can better handle tougher and longer grasses.

What is the lowest cut height of the WORX WR140 and is it adjustable?
WR140 can cut grasses to as low as 1.9 inches. When using the Landroid for the first time on your yard, WORX recommends that you start with the highest height setting and gradually work your way to the lowest, especially if the grasses on your lawn are a little grown.
How does the Landroid handle obstacles?
This Landroid tool handles different obstacles differently. When it encounters small objects like toys, sticks or dog poop, it runs over them. But with bigger objects like a tree branch, it will either bump into the branch and turn around or sense the branch and go around it. To detect obstacles, the Landroid uses an Anti-Collision System (ASC), but this comes as an add-on and is not integrated into the robot. The ASC helps detect obstacles and navigate better via ultrasonic detection.
What slope can the WORX Landroid M handle?
The M WR140 doesn’t do well with too much inclination and steep slopes. It can only handle up to a 35% incline or 20° slope. A very hilly lawn or sloping landscape will cause navigational troubles for the WR140, but smaller inclines are often fine and shouldn’t affect the robot’s performance too much.

Caring for your Landroid during winter is very important to think about. Unfriendly weather conditions like deep snow can cause a lot of damage to the mower. Can it cut grass when it’s raining?
The WR140 mower isn’t built to work in the rain and it doesn’t handle wet grasses well. Landroid has rain sensors that help it detect rain and return to its charging base until the weather is clearer and much drier. If it starts to rain just before a scheduled mowing time, the tool will delay the mowing cycle and send a notification to your app.It’s important to always schedule your Landroid to work in clear and dry weather to avoid any weather-induced damage.
