The quick answer – Samsung Jetbot AI+ vs Roomba J7+

The Samsung Jet Bot AI+ and Roomba J7+ are both high-end robot vacuums and beasts in terms of cleaning. However, the Roomba J7+ has a slight edge over the Jet Bot because it’s better at picking up pet hair and cleaning corners, thanks to a side brush.

The Samsung Jet Bot AI+ is also better at emptying its bin, and is the more reliable robot in this regard.

Both models have all the features you’d expect from a high-end robot vacuum: intelligent smart mapping to ensure every corner is cleaned with voice assistant compatibility.

This means you can instruct them to clean without picking them up, scheduling, powerful cleaning performance, the ability to add real or virtual no-go zones, and a self-emptying dock, so you never have to empty the robots.

Side-by-side comparison

Size and look

Each robot has a distinctive appearance. At 5.5 inches tall, the Samsung Jet Bot AI+ is not the smallest robot vacuum, but it’s an elegant-looking robot with a D-shaped design and weighs 10 pounds.

The Roomba is much shorter at 3.5 inches tall and can easily fit under all of my furniture. These robots are made of very strong plastic with exquisite finish and impressive build quality.

Obstacle navigation

Both robot have excellent navigation technology. While cleaning, they are able to intelligently avoid obstacles on their path. The Jet Bot AI+ has an AI-powered 3D Object Recognition technology, which is supported by an Intel processor.

While the Roomba j7+ robot vacuum uses PrecisionVision Navigation and iRobot OS Technology to identify and avoid everyday objects around the home. The two robot vacuums will excellently identify and avoid common obstacle like wires, socks, shoes, toys and even pet waste.

Both robots also have cameras built in for navigation, but you can use the Jet Bot AI Plus’s inbuilt lens as a mobile security camera. Its field of vision, however, is constrained by its height.

Smart mapping features

Both the Samsung’s Jet Bot AI Plus and Roomba J7+ have enhanced mapping capability. The Jet Bot AI Plus can recognize appliances automatically and add them to the map in the SmartThings app.

In case it gets things wrong, you can edit and add. Samsung robot flags objects it encouters with an image for you to identify.

The Roomba J7 has the Imprint Smart Mapping from iRobot that lets you schedule when and which rooms should be cleaned, while also saving several maps for quicker cleaning of different levels of your house.

Plus, you can specify the precise area to clean or avoid by creating customizable Keep Out Zones and Clean Zones.

Automatic emptying

Many high-end robot vacs come with a cleaning station that allows them to automatically empty their own bin when it’s full. Both the J7+ and the Jet Bot AI+ come with a Clean Station.

There isn’t much difference here, except that the Samsung’s Clean Base is tall and narrow, while the Roomba’s dock is smaller and shorter. Also, the Jet Bot is consistently more reliable in emptying its bin.

HEPA filtration

A high-efficiency particulate filtration system is a very useful feature in a robot vacuum, it’s a fine dust filter and especially great in a home with pets. Thankfully, both the Jet Bot AI+ and the J7+ are fully equipped with HEPA filtration that captures up to 99.99% of allergen and dust particles.

App and voice controls

For even more convenient cleaning, both the Roomba j7+ and Samsung Jet Bot AI+ have Alexa and Google Home built in. The Roomba j7+ can clean up messes as they happen with just a simple command to your voice assistant or using the iRobot Home App.

Samsung offers this feature via the SmartThings App. The app is not just an app to control your robot, but rather a full smart home ecosystem, it does offer a wide range of automation choices.

Key differences

Side brushes

These determine whether a robot vacuum will be able to efficiently sweep up dirt in edges and corners around the home. Most vacuum cleaner have a characteristic round shape, including the Roomba J7+.

These robot vacuums excel at seeping floors, but the Roomba is better at sweeping corners and edges because it has a side brush. While the Samsung Jet bot AI+ does have a side brush, it has a square shape, which lets it get closer to edges. However, the J7+ does a better job at cleaning edges because of the side brush.

Suction power

The best robotic vacuum cleaner come equipped with a powerful suction force to ensure that they successfully pick up dirt and dust particles from a variety of floor types, including carpets, for each cleaning mode. iRobot asserts that the suction power on the J7+ is 10 times more powerful than its base Roomba 600 model.

Both robots will increase suction force when they drive over non-plush carpet, but neither of them will handle high-pile carpet well, which is a common problem with most robot vacuums.

Battery life

Both robots come with rechargeable lithium-ion batteries, with similar battery life, although the Roomba has a shorter charging time than the Samsung. The Samsung Jet Bot AI+ will clean for about 90 mins (1 hour 30 mins) before needing a recharge, while the Roomba J7+ will clean for 80–90 mins.

They also both have the charge and resume feature that enables them to dictate a low battery, return to the charging base for a recharge and returning to finish the cleaning from where they stopped.

On-device controls

The Samsung Jet Bot AI+ has 3 buttons on the device: Power switch, Start/stop button and the Home button. The vacuum can be turned on and off using the power switch. The start/stop button is to initiate or pause a cleaning cycle, and the home button is to return the robot vacuum to its base to charge and empty the dust bin.

The Roomba J7+ just has a single button with multiple functions. It allows you to start, stop and pause a cleaning cycle with a tap, pr send the robot back to the base with a long-press.

Additionally, a rotating LED ring around the button lets you know what it’s doing: white for cleaning, red for low battery, and blue for processing information.

Warranty

These two robots are backed by a 12-month quality assurance coverage. However, the Roomba comes with an extra P.O.O.P (Pet Owner Official Promise) from iRobot. This robot vacuum manufacturers claim that the Roomba J7+ will always avoid dog poop, and they will replace it for free if it doesn’t.

FAQs

Do these robots mop?

No they don’t. These robots are only for vacuuming, they do not mop floors.

Will the clean base say when it’s full?

The Roomba will notify you on the app when the clean base is full, but not the Samsung.

How good are they with pet hair?

Yes, they do pick up pet hair, but the Roomba J7+ is slightly better at picking up pet hair, thanks to the dual multi-surface ribber brushes.

How do you buy replacement dust bags?

You can buy replacement dust bags on Amazon, and you’ll need to replace them every 2 to 3 months. The Roomba’s cost a few dollars for a pack of 3, while the Samsung’s cost is for a 5-pack.

How long do they take to charge?

Both the Samsung Jet Bot AI and iRobot Roomba J7+ have similar charging times, they both take at least 2 hours to fully charge.

Final Thoughts comparing the Roomba J7+ vs Samsung Jetbot AI+

This comparison between two premium robot vacs hasn’t been an easy one, as they are almost evenly matched. But I would say the Roomba J7+ is slightly ahead of the Samsung Jet Bot AI+ mainly because it’s better at sweeping corners and edges, plus it’s significantly cheaper than the Samsung.

Samsung doesn’t have a side brush, although it has a D-shaped design to allow it to fit into corners, but a side brush gives the J7+ better edge-sweeping performance. Also, the Roomba J7+ is better at picking up pet hair, while the Samsung Jet Bot AI is quieter and more reliable at self-emptying.
