1-Minute Husqvarna Automower 315X Review

The Husqvarna Automower 315X is a beautiful and stylish-looking robotic mower. With slim LED headlights, large driving wheels (for rough terrains), and three spinning blades, it automates lawn-mowing.

The Husqvarna 315X is specially designed for lawns of up to 0.4 acres. Though an installed boundary wire directs its movement on the lawn, it also features sensors for detecting and avoiding objects on the lawn and a GPS system to keep track of mowing progress.

It has a control panel with 19 buttons and a 2.6-by-1.5-inch color screen. It also comes with a smartphone app and is compatible with Alexa and Google Assistant, making it easy to control.

Much like other robotic lawn mowers, the Automower 315x creates very fine grass clippings that stay on the lawn and in time become a natural fertilizer, meaning there is no need to follow around and clear up the clippings.

Overall, this is among the best robotic mowers and offers mowing performance. If you are looking for a robot to keep medium lawn sized gardens under control, it’s certainly worth considering this device.

How The Husqvarna 315X Robot Mowers Works

Before you can get the Husqvarna 315X to work on your lawn, you will first have to install it by laying down the perimeter, and the charging station and connecting it to the mobile app.

The installation process takes a bit of time and expertise, so you may want to leave it to Husqvarna professionals to handle. But if you’d rather do it yourself, you can follow the detailed instructions in the user’s manual and expect to invest as much as 2 or more hours.

After pegging down the boundary wires and installing the charging station. Next is to download the Automower Connect app and connect it to the robot. Then your robot is ready to roll.

The Husqvarna Automower 315X drives out of its charging dock and onto the lawn, using three free-hanging blades, it clips and mulches graisses, reducing them to an even height.

How does the Automower 315 work?

The robotic lawn mower moves in a zigzag pattern and once it reaches one lawn edge it turns in another direction and continues working. An integrated GPS Smart mowing system helps keep track of where it has mowed for efficiency. It also has obstacle-detection sensors, and when it senses an object on its part, it changes direction.

The Automower 315x can handle uneven and terraced lawn, thanks to its large driving wheels. It can also maneuver through narrow passages of about 2 feet and cut around raised flower beds.

The Husqvarna Automower 315x can mow around 100 m2 per hour. When the battery drops to a certain level, it takes itself back to the charging station for a recharge, and when ready it returns to complete the job.

Husqvarna AUTOMOWER 315X Robotic Lawn Mower

You can get your robot started either via the mobile app or from the control panel, which are both very easy to understand and operate. The cutting height is set by a switch on the top of the mower.

The Husqvarna Automower 315X also has a few security features like an alarm system and password to prevent theft. And even if it’s stolen, it has built-in sensors to help the police track it down.

This robot lawn mower is very efficient and produces excellent cutting results in its designated working area.

Performance

The Husqvarna Automower 315X works well for a premium automatic lawn mower. It moves through the lawn in a zigzag pattern reducing grasses to an even height. The guide wire helps it to identify lawn edges and avoid permanent obstacles like flower beds and trees.

It easily glides over small objects, and when it comes in contact with big obstacles like a toy or tree branch, it stops and moves away. But occasionally, it gets stuck on branches and other big obstacles.

Unlike gas-powered mowers, this robotic lawn mower has a very quiet motor. You can even schedule it to mow at night when everyone is asleep and it will work without any disturbance. That’s how quiet it is.

What can the mobile app do?

The Automower Connect app allows you to easily control and program your robotic lawn mower. You can’t change its direction from the app but can track its progress while working.

Many other robots with mobile apps use Bluetooth connectivity and will only allow you to control the robot from the app when you’re within the Bluetooth range. But the Husqvarna app can control the robot from anywhere because it uses cellular technology.

How do these lawn mowers do in wet weather?

The Husqvarna Automower 315X doesn’t have a rain sensor, probably because it’s built to work in the rain. But working in the rain means layers of wet grass clipping on the cutting deck, which can affect performance.

So, make you clean off these grasses to maintain excellent performance. Basically, rain or shine, your Automower 315 will be taking care of your yard.

Ease of Set-up And Use

Husqvarna Automower 315X is easy to understand and operate but setting it up isn’t very simple. First, it has to be installed on your lawn. This basically involves laying both the boundary and a guide wire.

Depending on the size, shape, and complexity of your lawn, this process can be simple or complex and take between 2 to 5 hours.

Though you can do the installation yourself, by following the instructions in the operator’s manual or watching some videos on Youtube, it’s best to let a professional handle it, especially if your lawn has many flower beds and trees.

Once installed, the Husqvarna Automower 315 is simple to operate via its panel. It can also be controlled via a smartphone app that you’ll have to download and connect with the robot.

Connecting this robot to the mobile app is somewhat rigorous;

  • After the Automower is installed, you’ll have to download the app and create an account with your email address.
  • Then you’ll be prompted to verify your email address, which you’ll do from the verification email sent to you.
  • Next, go to the “Accessories menu” on the mower, and select “Automower Connect.” Click “New Pairing” to generate a pairing code.
  • Go back to the app and click “Add Automower.” Select 315X from the list and enter the pairing code generated by the mower.
  • Hope it works the first time

From the mobile app, you can schedule mowing times, track the mower, and receive alarms. It’s also compatible with Amazon Alexa and Google Home Assistant for easy voice commands.

Reliability

As a robotic lawnmower, the Husqvarna Automower 315 is excellent at its job and it covers a 1000-square-foot lawn in above an hour without missing any spots. It does a commendable job of mowing the lawn, and it travels back to the charging dock when it finishes or for a recharge, if need be.

Once you schedule mowing times, you can expect it to go out at those times and get the job. It never messes with mowing schedules. In terms of consistency, you should have to worry as long as you maintain your mowing robots properly.

Make sure to consider factors like area capacity, terrain, and slopes, since these factors can have an impact on a robotic lawn mower’s performance.

Ongoing Maintenance

Compared to other robotic home gadgets, robotic lawnmowers have an impressive lifespan of over 15 years. But for any robot lawn mower to last that long requires that the owner takes maintenance very seriously.

The Husqvarna Automower 315X will need to be cleaned after every few grass cutting. Using a damp cloth, brush, or spraying water (not running or high-pressure water and no need for a solvent), remove grasses from the wheels, cutting deck, and chassis.

Do you need to replace the spinning blades?

Husqvarna recommends that you replace the razor blades once or twice a month if your lawn is at least 1000 m². Replacing them takes only a few minutes using a screwdriver.

Depending on how often you mow and how big your lawn is, the battery duration of your 315X can last for 2-4 seasons. Reducing the running time during dry seasons can help your battery last longer.

During winter, you may have no need to mow your lawn. Therefore, your Automower and the charging station should be taken indoors and properly stored in a dry and frost-free place.

But before storage, ensure you thoroughly clean the cutting deck, wheels, and chassis of your robot.

Extra Purchases And Ongoing Costs

Installing the Husqvarna Automower 315X is the obvious additional cost that you must decide if you want to begin with. However, sometimes this cost will be included.

As we mentioned earlier, depending on your garden size you should expect to spend a few hours getting your robot mower set up. You will need to buy an installation kit (check if it is included) and possibly some additional boundary wire and pegs.

However, I would recommend for peace of mind hiring a professional. Not only can you kick back and relax, but you will also have the assurance that it is installed correctly and, most importantly, located in the best possible place. You may be able to find a service local to you via Amazon, if not, a Google search should bring back plenty of local options.

Does the Automower 315 need replacement parts?

Aside from that, you will need to buy spare blades for the Husqvarna Automower 315 model. You can probably expect to change them about once a month and it is three blades at a time.

In many ways, the blades are a bit like printer cartridges. If you buy the official ones, they can be quite expensive, however, there are cheaper alternatives available. Using the original ones it would be around $10 per month, if you’re happy with other brands, then it is down to $1 – $2 per month.

Finally, you may want to consider a house for your robot mower while charing to protect it from the elements. You can find the official Husqvarna Automower House Kit on Amazon, or get creative and build something yourself. Aside from these few factors, these lawn mowers don’t tend to need much.

Is the Husqvarna Automower 315 worth the money?

There’s no doubt that this particular device isn’t the cheapest on the market – but it is known for being one of the best options. With a variety of excellent features, connectivity, and more, there are plenty of things that make the Automower 315 worth your consideration.

FAQ

Will the mower cut the grass when it’s raining? Does this robot come with an installation kit?

The robot doesn’t automatically include an installation kit. If you purchase yours on Amazon, you have to select to include it at checkout, if not the kit isn’t included.

Does it mulch the grass back into the lawn?

Yes, that’s one advantage of robotic mowers over traditional gas-powered mowers. With the Automower, you’ll no longer have to rake your lawn after the grass is cut. The grass clippings are barely noticeable and the mower scatters them on the lawn to act as fertilizer.

How does the robot lawn mower handle dog poop?

The Husqvarna 315X glides over small obstacles and if it comes in contact dog poop, it would either glide over it or cut a small portion off and make a mess. Automower 315X may easily glide over small objects but with bigger ones like tree branches, it gets stuck. Although this robotic lawn mower can run over small objects like sticks and debris, it’s best to always remove objects and scoop up dog poop from the lawn before sending it to work. Because constantly sending it to mow a lawn with objects may damage the cutting blades or block the unit.

Does the mower have a cliff sensor for a terraced lawn?

It handles terraced and uneven lawns well thanks to its large driving wheels but it doesn’t have a cliff sensor. During installation, the perimeter wire you install will keep your Automower from going over the cliff. To ensure your robot doesn’t stray very close to the edge of a cliff and risk a large drop-off, install the perimeter wire about 6 or more inches from the cliff edge.

Will the robotic lawn mowers cut the grass when it’s raining?

Husqvarna 315X robot lawn mower is built to handle rain and wet conditions. But in extreme weather conditions like storms and torrential rains, it’s safer to take it inside.

What is the smallest space it can maneuver through?

This robotic lawn mower can fit through passageways as narrow as 60cm (about 2 feet).

What’s the difference between the Husqvarna Automower 315X and 430X?

The 315X and 430X are two premium robot lawn mowers from Husqvarna and they basically have similar features. The major difference between the two Husqvarna Automowers is in their design intent. The 430X is designed to handle big lawns of up to 0.8 acres while the 315X is built to handle smaller lawns of no more than 0.4 acres.

Battery life

This is why the most obvious difference between them is in their battery capacity, charging time, and the duration of their battery life on one charge. The 315X robot mowers have a battery capacity of 2.1Ah, charging time is 60 mins and battery life on one charge is 70 mins.

For the 430X, its battery capacity is 5.2Ah, charging time is 50 mins while the battery life on one charge is 145 mins. The 430X also has a wider cutting width and can handle slopes better than the 315X.

Despite the price, it’s well worth it
