Full Husqvarna Automower 115H review

Husqvarna Automower 115H robot mower is a smart home gadget that automates the process of keeping your lawn neat and well-trimmed. With this device, you can maintain an enviable lawn with just the touch of a button, plus you can control it from a mobile application.

This smart product is guided by a boundary wire buried a few inches beneath the ground, with this it’s able to smartly navigate through your lawn and find its way back to the station when need be. Essentially, these guide wires keep it in place so you won’t have to worry about it going off too far or into an area that could be dangerous for it.

What are these Robotic lawn mowers best at?

Designed to manage medium-sized lawns of no more than a quarter acre, Husqvarna 115H uses 3 small razor-like blades attached to a spinning blade disc to slice through different types of grasses, reducing them to tiny clippings which are transferred back to the lawn to provide nourishment for the grass.

The razor-sharp blades are very energy efficient and they’re made of strong carbon steel, and the motor is quiet enough to run at night time without causing any disturbance. Although it’s best suited for a flat and fenced-in lawn, Husqvarna 115H has no trouble climbing slopes of up to 30% or 17 degrees within the working space and up to 15 degrees slope along the edges of the lawn.

Are there any downsides to the Husqvarna Automower 115h Robotic Mower?

Unlike some other premium robotic mowers from Husqvarna, this gadget has neither a GPS tracker nor obstacle detection sensors, however, it is able to do a fine trimming job and when it encounters an obstacle it slowly collides with it, stops, and redirects itself without causing any damage to the object.

Another plus side is that the Husqvarna 115H is equipped with a number of safety features to avoid accidents, for instance, the blades are located far from the outer edges of the machine and if the Automower is tilted or lifted off the ground, the spinning blades automatically stop. Alongside this, there are also security features for further protection.

Husqvarna 115H is weather-resistant and will mow in most weather conditions, it also comes with a 2-year limited warranty for residential use.

Performance

As an entry-level robotic mower for small and mid-sized lawns, Husqvarna 115H is ideal for fenced-in lawns free from pets, and objects and with very little or no slope. If your lawn fits this description, you can expect this Automower to do a great lawn maintenance job with excellent cutting results. But otherwise, you’re bound to see the limitation of this device.

The main downsides of this robot string trimmer

First, the Automower has been known to be unable to find its way back to the station in time for a recharge, when this happens you will find it somewhere on the lawn with an empty battery and you’ll have to carry it back to the charging station for a recharge. Although this isn’t a usual occurrence if you have a driveway with vehicles parked expect to find your robot stuck beneath or between cars.

Husqvarna Automower 115 has no rain sensors, it’s built to be weather-resistant and can mow in any weather, but in extreme conditions such as storms, you’ll have to stop the mowing and take it inside for safety reasons. Also, since it has no GPS tracking to help it ‘know’ where it’s cut, sometimes it doesn’t cut everywhere and you’ll see a tall spot that you may have to manually trim.

Is it still worth it?

Despite these drawbacks, if you have a simple fenced-in lawn, this mower is great and will do an amazing lawn maintenance job – you’ll be more than content with this piece of power equipment.

Ease of set-up and use

Quite frankly, the Husqvarna 115H isn’t an easy robot to set up and before you can get it to work you’ll need a Husqvarna professional to install this gadget on your lawn. Fortunately, you don’t have to pay for this as Husqvarna 115H comes with free installation.

Once you purchase this robot, you’ll need to put a call through to Husqvarna to find the closest Husqvarna professional near you to install the lawn mower for you. The professional installation process generally involves laying down the guide wire, setting up the charging dock, and programming the robot to run, this can take between 2 to 3 hours.

Is it easy to set up the device’s mowing schedule?

After the professional installation and setup, you can then create a mowing schedule for the robotic mower via the smartphone app. You can either control this robot via the mobile app or the control panel on the device. Since it doesn’t come with WiFi, you can only use the app if you’re within 50-100 feet from the mower because the Bluetooth has a limited range.

Once all this is done though, you’re likely to find that these mowers offer excellent coverage.

Can you take care of the installation yourself?

If you would prefer to do it yourself instead of calling in the professionals, the DIY installation kit could help you to take care of the setup. It can often be quite complex to set up these robotic mowers, but it is certainly possible to do it yourself. Also, it might be worth looking into how to lay the perimeter wire if you need more information on this particular aspect of the setup.

Reliability

As an entry-level robotic mower, the Husqvarna 115H performs well enough. It is very sturdily built and with proper maintenance you can expect it to last for a good number of years. So far the major complaints about the Husqvarna 115H are slow installation, and the absence of WiFi and GPS tracking.

The Husqvarna Automower 115H has also been known to be unable to find its way back to the docking station and when this happens, you will have to carry it back. Though this doesn’t happen very often, the few times it happens can be irritating.

Besides minor flaws and limitations, the Husqvarna Automower 115H is generally a great product for a small fenced-in yard and one of the best robotic mowers on the market for its affordable price.

Theft protection

While there are several great features, one particular bonus that comes with choosing these mowers is that they come with great security features. If you’re looking for extra security on your device, this is one aspect that you can rely on.

Ongoing maintenance of robust cutting disc system

Husqvarna 115H robotic mower needs to stay in good shape to perform at its best and to make sure of this, you’ll have to take routine maintenance seriously.

Your robot will need to be clean, large deposits of grass on the chassis and cutting deck will decrease cutting performance, and deposits of grass on wheels will affect the ability of the robot to smoothly navigate the lawn, especially on sloped areas.

Does a robot mower require a lot of maintenance?

At least once a week, clean the blade disc, chassis, and wheels with water and a brush, and check that the blade disc rotates freely. Also, inspect the blades and make sure their edges are not damaged, mowing with blunt or damaged blades will produce a poor cutting result.

Also, check for worn parts and replace them for safety and efficiency. For proper storage during winter, the robot and docking station should be thoroughly cleaned and stored in a frost-free place.

Extra purchases and ongoing costs

All Husqvarna Automowers come as complete packages (including the docking station) and you don’t have to make any extra purchase to get them to work. But you’ll have to first install it on your lawn and luckily the 115H comes with free installation, so the price isn’t usually much of a problem.

Do you need to replace any parts?

To maintain an excellent cutting result, you may need to change the blades every 4-7 weeks. The 115H model comes with 9 pieces of extra blades, so you won’t have to worry about getting new ones for some time.

The battery will last for 2-4 cutting seasons before requiring a replacement and any worn parts will need replacement. Generally, Husqvarna Automowers require less than $50 for annual maintenance.

Husqvarna Automower 115h FAQs

Does it have sensors for detecting obstacles?

Just like any other robotic lawn mower, this Automower model uses the boundary wire as the primary sense for finding its way around the lawn. But unlike some premium Automowers, it doesn’t have special sensors for detecting objects on its path.

How much slope can the Husqvarna Automower 115h handle?

As an entry-level robotic mower, the Husqvarna Automower 115H lawn mowers aren’t designed to handle uneven terrains and very sloped lawns. It can handle a slope of 17 degrees (which is equivalent to 30% inclination) in the working area.

How does the lawn mower handle thick crabgrass?

The Automower 115H is equipped with very sharp razor blades and with this robust cutting disc system it can slice through different types of grass despite the thickness. However, Husqvarna recommends that you first trim your lawn before introducing the 115H, this will improve performance and efficiency.

Can it mow when it’s raining?

The Husqvarna Automower 115H is weatherproof and can work under a drizzle or light rain. Very heavy rains or stormy weather will be too much challenging and unsafe, in such conditions, it’s safer to take it inside.

What is their cutting height?

2 inches to 3.6 inches.

How do you set the guide wire?

If you’re unsure about how to set the boundary wires, charging station or any other part of the installation, it might be worth either calling an expert to assist you. Since this device isn’t the only robotic lawn mower to use a perimeter wire, you can probably find several tutorials online.

What kind of battery does it use?

These Automower models use an Il ion battery type to run.

What’s the difference between the Husqvarna Automower 105 vs 115h?

The 115H is a mower designed to handle big lawns of up to 1600 square meters (0.4 acres) while the 105 is built to handle smaller lawns of no more than 600 square meters (0.15 acres). Although both robots are best suited for flat lawns, Husqvarna 115H can handle more slopes than the 105, it can handle up to 17-degree inclines in the working area while the 105 handles only 14-degree inclines 105 and 115H are two entry-level Automowers from Husqvarna and they have basically the same functions and very similar features. The major differentiating feature is seen in the maximum lawn size each can handle.

Final thoughts on the Husqvarna Automower 115h

The Automower 115H may not be one the most advanced robotic lawn mowers you’ll find but it sure does an excellent job on a simple lawn of 0.4 acres. It doesn’t have many features like GPS tracking or WiFi connectivity, as you must have seen in this Husqvarna Automower 115h review.

Of course, these premium features make a robot mower more convenient, but their absence doesn’t affect the efficiency of the 115H. If you have a medium-sized fenced-in lawn with very little or no slopes, you can trust the Husqvarna Automower 115H to keep it well-trimmed because that’s exactly what it’s built for.

What’s the bottom line?

This smart lawn mower model isn’t a groundbreaking innovation, but it is a good quality piece of technology that can provide you with an easier mowing experience in your back and front yard. Alongside a great price, it’s a decent option for a variety of homeowners.
