Full ecovacs Winbot 880 Review – Robot Window Cleaner

How The Ecovacs Winbot 880 Works?

Unlike some other robotic window cleaners, the Ecovacs Winbot cleans your glass with four-stage cleaning modes. This four-stage cleaning process ensures a thoroughly cleaned and spotless window since the robot passes over every inch of the window four times, using its microfiber pads and two squeegees.

First, it sprays a cleaning solution on the front of the cleaning pad, then it proceeds to wipe the window with this moist pad area, which moistens and loosens dirt particles on the window.

After that, a squeegee passes over, removing dirt from the glass surfaces. Then another squeegee still goes over to remove any stubborn dirt. Lastly, the back of the cleaning pad wipes the window dry erasing any greasy tracks and leaving your window spotless.

Before going to work, Ecovacs Winbot 880 window cleaning robot first scans the window to detect its shape and identify the best cleaning path. It uses sensors to smartly navigate and avoid bumping into obstacles like the edges of the window. This makes for more efficient cleaning. After a cleaning cycle, it returns to its starting point and stays put until you take it off the window. For the safety measures ecovacs winbot 880 window robot comes with safety tether.

Systematic Cleaning Pattern to Cover Every Each Inch

Performance of Robot Window Cleaners

Ecovac Winbot 880 is an excellent gadget for any home with very wide and tall glass windows. Its automatic window cleaning process makes it a real asset but it doesn’t come without a few challenges.

Though it’s a robot that’s built to work automatically without physical input from humans, as with all robot window cleaners, it requires that you are present to remove it from one window and move it to the next. It would be nice to one day have a set and forget option, but given the complexities of moving between windows, I don’t think this will be anytime soon.

All the intelligent cleaning features and safety features are included, such as edge detection and a backup battery. One thing we did love though, is to make this easy, it does have a return to start feature so when you’re watching it cleaning the top of those tall windows you cannot reach wondering how you’ll retrieve it, don’t worry. It will retrieve itself.

But what about the windows? Well, the Ecovacs Winbot 880 certainly does an impressive job of cleaning windows.  It’s very efficient and works very quietly, so you can go about your usual activities without noise pollution. Of course, it’s not perfect, none of the models are, but it is certainly worth considering among the best robotic window cleaning robots on the market right now.

Despite being an impressive gadget, Winbot can use some improvements. For instance, you can’t run it in very cold or hot weather. And once in a while, it can leave visible streaks on your window.

Ease Of Set-up And Use

The Ecovacs Winbot 880 is a very simple robot and requires no special skills or knowledge to operate. In short, its controls are very intuitive and anyone could get the hang of it within minutes.

To start this robot, place it on the window and attach the tether to the safety pod, then push the start button on the remote control and watch it go to work.

If you think there is an area that could do with a second run-over, you can use the remote control for spot cleaning. Just direct the movement of the robot to the exact spot and it will stop and clean.

Once the robot completes its cleaning job, you can take it off the window. With its sturdy handle, you can safely lift it, place it on a window or move it to another window. For ease of use, we selected robots that all feature a one-touch operating mode, but can also be controlled via a remote and, in some cases, a smartphone app

The machine weighs a little less than 4lbs (1.8kgs) which is on the heavier side for a window cleaning robot, therefore, make sure that you are at a safe and comfortable height when placing or removing it from windows. Pros Multiple safety features to keep you and your robot safe.

It’s very efficient and works very quietly, so you can go about your usual activities without noise pollution. Of course, it’s not perfect, none of the models are, but it is certainly worth considering among the best robotic window cleaning robots on the market right now.

Most people are familiar with the concept of robot vacuums, vacuum cleaners that you can switch on and leave to take care of cleaning your floors. They are now well-established household robots, but window cleaning robots are still less common. However, the concept is the same. You attach one to your window and set it to clean

Reliability

Ecovacs Winbot 880 promises to automate the process of cleaning windows and it does deliver on that end. It’s a sturdy machine and does an excellent job of cleaning windows.

A robotic window cleaner uses suction power to stick to your window, then navigates around with a microfiber cloth to clean it. Window cleaning robot is especially useful in homes and office buildings where it may be difficult to access every part of the windowpane.

The several premium features working together to get the job done, make it very efficient, though you can expect it to leave some visible streaks on your windows every once in a while.

As for longevity, it is still a relatively new product so it would be hard to promise years of service, however, Ecovacs are known for making solid products and have a great support team all over the world should you run into any troubles.

Edge detection sensors to avoid bumping of falling

Ongoing Maintenance

Maintaining this robot is simple. It comes with a washable cleaning pad which you can clean and reuse several times.

It’s recommended you wash the cleaning pad after every use and let it dry before the next use. Never start the robot with a wet cleaning pad. Also wipe the surface of the Squeegees, Edge detection sensors, and side rollers clean with a dry mop, after each cleaning cycle.

Ecovac warns that the Winbot shouldn’t run in extremely hot, cold, or humid environments. And charging the battery in a very cold or hot environment can shorten its lifespan.

Extra Purchases And Ongoing Costs

The Winbot 880 comes as a complete robot and you don’t need any extra purchases before you can get it to work.

Just like many other robotic window cleaners out there, Winbot 880 requires very little ongoing maintenance cost. Since it comes with a washable microfiber cleaning pad, you can wash and reuse them as many times as possible.

And if you need replacements, you can get them on Amazon for less than $20. This robot also doesn’t require any special cleaning solution, so you can use your normal cleaning solution or just pure water.

Winbot 880 window cleaning robot helps you get started on the right path; it includes a safety tether, bottle of cleaning solution, and an edge brush that you can buy from same company.

Final thoughts on the Winbot 880

It’s a welcome return to form for  Ecovacs and their range of robotic window cleaners after the disappointment of the Winbot X and 950. This is certainly a high-end model but holds its own when compared with other robotic window cleaners that include a built-in water tank such as the Hobot 298.

Safety is a key feature since you don’t want a robot to fall off the glass. If you have large windows or ones that are hard to reach, this could well be your answer to your window cleaning woes.

The setup is simple, no strenuous maintenance is required and with the Ecovacs customer support, you can buy in confidence that even if you decide it is not for you, the team is there to help you. This will certainly be worthy of a spot on our best robotic window cleaners list when we next update the post.
