The Ecovacs Deebot N8 Pro+ attracted much attention due to its promise of “astronautics-grade detection technology,” monikered as TrueDetect 3D Smart Detection. While this feature is not new to ECOVACS, its algorithms have been upgraded to work with dToF sensors.

Ecovacs has been hyping TrueDetect, but it isn’t really a game changer compared to the PreciSense LiDAR Navigation from Roborock S7+. TrueDetect only works if the obstruction is directly in front of the sensor. Based on our systematic tests, we’ve come to a conclusion that the obstacle had to be five inches from the robot for the sensors to work as expected.
PreciSense LiDAR Navigation brings the same to the table without banging the drums. The only hiccup we noticed with the Roborock S7+ is that the robot often mistakes curtains for walls.
Other than that, these two robot vacuums are equal in terms of navigation. Positioning in large homes is accurate, thus enabling the N8 Pro and Roborock S7 robots to reach their respective destinations without delay.
A big advantage of having LiDAR-based robot vacuums is the smart mapping feature that you can view and manipulate with your phone. The Ecovacs Deebot N8 Pro+ calls this feature True Mapping, while Roborock calls it Precision Mapping. Despite the different terms, they pertain to the same thing.
App and voice control
Gone are the days of the old remote control! Using your smartphone and the robots’ respective companion apps, you can:
- scan and save maps of different levels of your home
- set no go zones
- send your robot to clean a specific room
- access the scheduling feature

I never thought I’d find a hybrid that is good at vacuuming and mopping until I found the Roborock S7+. The Ecovacs Deebot N8 Pro+ is also a robot mop. Both models come with a detachable plate where you insert the mopping pad. However, the Roborock S7+ is the first two-in-one robot vacuum I can trust to work at home without supervision.
Trust me, you haven’t heard of this before!
What makes the Roborock S7+ a superior hybrid robot vacuum is that its mopping pad scrubs floors using rapid sound waves. In theory, the mopping pad scrubs up to 3,000 times per minute to loosen dried dirt and stubborn stains that require a bit of elbow grease to remove.
A 300-ml electronic water tank keeps the vibrating mopping pad saturated with water – enough to mop 2000 sq. feet of hard floors in one session.
But wait, there’s more! The Roborock S7+ raises its mopping assembly by 5mm higher whenever it detects carpet areas or when it’s time to return to the charging dock. Likewise, you can create no mop zones via the Roborock app.
By contrast, the Ecovacs Deebot N8 Pro+ simply drags its wet, static mopping pad. While this hybrid model lacks a similar feature as the VibraRise tech, it uses ultrasonic sensors which prevent the robot from traveling over carpets.
The Ecovacs Deebot N8 Pro+ has four vacuum power levels: Quiet, Standard, Max, and Max+. The highest setting is rated at 2600 Pa, making it a fantastic choice for homes with carpeted areas and hard floors. The Roborock S7+ also has four vacuum power levels: Quiet, Balanced, Turbo, and Max. It tops out at 2500 Pa of suction.
Okay, I know what you’re thinking: the Ecovacs Deebot N8 Pro+ is a more powerful robot. However, you should also bear in mind that suction power is only one of the many contributing factors to the cleaning efficiency of a robot vacuum.
The Ecovacs Deebot N8 Pro+ holds a main brush roll in the middle and two side brushes that help funnel dirt and debris into the internal dustbin. Now, the reason why I wasn’t so impressed with the suction power of the Deebot N8 Pro+ is due to the main brush it uses. This model uses the traditional bristle design, which is bad news for long human and pet hair.
On the other hand, the Roborock S7+ comes with a tangle-resistant rubber-finned brushroll and one five-spoke side brush. Even better, the robot features a floating mechanism that keeps the main brush close to the ground and it lifts up the brush when it is in contact with carpets. This feature allows for better agitation to ensure deep cleaning even on uneven surfaces.
The Ecovacs Deebot N8 Pro+ packs a 3200mAh lithium-ion battery that can run for up to 110 minutes in its lowest setting. Take note; various surfaces will impact runtime and coverage.
Since this model features an automatic carpet boost, it will increase its suction power when it detects rugs and carpets. While this setting is on by default, you can turn it off using the app to maximize battery life.
Granted that the Roborock S7+ runs in Quiet mode on hard floors without its mopping assembly, it can run up to 180 minutes after a complete charge. The Roborock S7+ obviously has a bigger battery capacity since it packs a 5200 mAh lithium-ion.
Moreover, both robot vacuums will return to their dock when their battery is running low and resume cleaning after recharging. These robots will determine the battery needed to complete a cleaning cycle, so it will charge just enough to finish their undone work.
Auto empty dock
The Deebot N8 Pro+ ships with an auto empty dock housing a 2.5-liter capacity dust bag with the promise of liberating your hands for up to two months. By default, the robot is designed to empty its 420-ml dustbin after each cleaning, thus reducing your exposure to air contaminants. The dust bag can store up to 60 days’ worth of debris but bear in mind that this is just an estimation.
As for the Roborock S7, it works with or without a self-emptying base. By itself, the robot costs approximately less than $300. But if you are an allergy sufferer, I highly recommend you get the auto empty dock. Similar to its competitor, it uses a dust bag to store the contents emptied from the robot’s 470-ml dustbin.
The bags must be emptied at some point, but depending on the size of your home, it may take three months before you need to throw away the bag. The auto empty dock for the Roborock S7 prevents accidental operations and it seals the disposable bag to prevent dust leaks.
Do the Deebot N8 Pro+ and the Roborock S7+ save multiple maps?
Yes! The Deebot N8 Pro+ can save two maps, while the Roborock S7 can save up to four maps. Using their respective companion apps, you can name different areas on your map, and create virtual boundaries, among other features.
Can you buy the Roborock S7 without the self-emptying base?
