Let’s take a closer look

How it works

The Aquabot X2 is built to follow a similar mechanism as most other robotic pool cleaners on the market. It comes equipped with a drive system, an energy-efficient DC motor, a rotating scrubbing brush, filter cartridges, and a pool-mapping system.

The high-grip 4 wheel-drive system of the Aquabot X2 firmly plants the robot on the pool’s floor, giving it superb traction as it navigates slippery pool surfaces. At the same time, the rotating brush with spike-like bristles work on the surfaces to dislodge dirt, which are subsequently trapped in the top-loading cartridges.

The superior filtration system ensures that all pool contaminants, including leaves, twigs, stones, algae, fine dirt and sand, are trapped and contained in the baskets, leaving the pool water shiny and free from dirt. It has 3 hours cleaning time, and within that time the X2 will get rid of dirt and debris particles in the entire pool.

Also, the Aquabot X2 avoids obstacles for the most efficient clean of your pool, thanks to an integrated pool-mapping system. Finally, the robot has a timer that allows you to schedule cleaning times, and it can be left in the water to clean automatically.

Key Features Of Aquabot X2

4WD propulsion: a 4-wheel drive system with high-grip wheels give the Aquabot X2 excellent traction on slippery pool surfaces. And as the 4WD propels it forward, active rotating scrubbing brushes dislodge dirt from pool surfaces.

Very fine filtration: this pool bot is equipped with top loading massive dual filtration cartridges to ensure the capture and removal of even the tiniest pool contaminant, no messy filter bag to clean. The filter cartridges have the ability to hold up to 300 square-inch of debris.

Versatile: the versatility of the Aquabot X2 is one feature that makes it stand out. It’s designed to clean different pool floor types, including above-ground pools and in-ground pools. And it’s also perfect for a variety of surface types; vinyl pools, fiberglass, tiles, and concrete.

Performance

Aquabot X2 is an average robotic pool cleaner. It’s generally good at cleaning pools, especially small in-ground and above-ground pools. This robot is not ideal for pools of 50 ft long, in fact, it’s perfect for pools no more than 30 ft long. It has the ability to climb walls, only partially, and clean. But sometimes, it can get up to the water line.

The active scrubber has enough force to dislodge tough stains and dirt on the pool surfaces, while the filters do an excellent job of trapping both large and small debris. The X2 has a strong motor and a compact build, with 2 years warranty for 24 months of swimming pool maintenance. It’s a great machine for cleaning small and medium swimming pools, but average when compared to many top automatic pool cleaners on the market.

Limitations

Aquabot X2 is a good pool cleaner, and it’s a great budget-friendly product, but it does have a few drawbacks. The major complaint about this robot is the absence of clear and detailed instructions for users. The user’s guide is terrible, it doesn’t really explain how to properly use the robot, which is very unfair for a gadget of its price.

Once you start using this robot, the very first thing you will probably notice is that it doesn’t thoroughly clean out edges and corners. This is because the single scrubber brush is positioned at the center of the robot, and there are no side brushes to work on pool edges. The top-loading filters contain lots of debris, but you have to be careful when pulling it out to ensure that the contents don’t accidentally spill all over the place.

Lastly, the power cord doesn’t have the swivel technology, but this isn’t such a big deal at this price point,  it almost never tangles. And when it does, you will have to carefully unwind the tangles. But if you can afford an upgraded model that includes this, it would be worth considering.

Ease of set up and use

The Aquabot X2 automatic pool cleaner comes as an already assembled unit, and everything you will need to get it started is included in the box. It’s very easy and straightforward to use. If you’re already familiar with robotic pool cleaners, then unboxing the Aquabot X2 and getting it ready for the first clean will be a breeze.

Otherwise, you will need some help. First, the power cord will need to be connected to the transformer box and then plugged into a power supply outlet. The unit has an obvious On/Off button, and it shows a blue ring when it’s turned on.

You simply turn on the robot, carefully lower it into the pool, and watch it go. Removing it from the pool after a cleaning session can be a challenge because it’s a heavy unit, weighing more than 25 pounds.

Ongoing Maintenance

For the most part, Aquabot X2 is a low-maintenance pool robot. Maintaining the robot centers around cleaning out the filters after every cleaning session, and ensuring that you promptly replace any worn out parts.

The unit has a blue light “Dirty filter indicator” to let you know when to clean the filters. While this may sound easy, cleaning out the microfiber filter cartridges can be a time-consuming task, it requires diligence and a great deal of patience.

You will first discard the contents, loosen any stuck debris, and proceed with a garden hose to spray the filter from the outside first, then the inside. Use the spray to thoroughly clean the fine fabric of the filters.

It’s important to clean these filters regularly and replace them when they become worn out. Doing this will ensure that the robot performs at its best every time.

Extra Purchases and ongoing costs

To keep the Aquabot X2 performing at its best, you will need to make some replacements with time. For instance, the active scrubbing brush, basket filters, and foam wheel tread can get worn with continuous usage and require replacement. Aquabot has replacement parts for their machines available on their website, or you can check on Amazon and other e-commerce sites.

A couple of alternatives to consider

If you are unsure of the Aquabot X2 and want something solid from a top brand, then consider the Dolphin Nautilus CC. This is an excellent robotic pool cleaner for your small or mid-sized above/in-ground pool. The Dolphin Nautilus CC is a pool robot designed to automatically clean large in-ground pools. It uses a high-speed scrubber, an extra-large filter cartridge and a strong suction force to automatically clean your pool in just 2 hours. Dolphin robotic cleaners costs a little extra, but they’re well worth it.

Another great choice with a cheaper price tag is the Paxcess Cordless Automatic pool cleaner. This is a smart pool robot that does an amazing pool cleaning job, plus it will save you some money. Its cordless design (and a built-in 5000mAh rechargeable battery) allows for greater cleaning mobility. It doesn’t need to be connected to a power supply, and it covers every inch of the pool floors, capturing every trace of dirt and debris in its path.

FAQs

When was the Aquabot X2 released?

Aquabot X2 was released in mid-2021.

Is it good for above ground pools?

Yes, Aquabot X2 is very versatile and can clean both in-ground and above ground pools of 30 ft long or less. It can also clean pools of different shapes and surface types. But, don’t expect it to clean the waterline, steps or pool benches.

Does the cord tangle easily?

The cord is about 7 feet long and doesn’t tangle easily, despite not having the swivel technology. However, you will still have to disconnect it from the power box and untangle it, every once in a while.

How well does it clean pool walls?

It climbs pool walls, but only partially, it doesn’t climb to the waterline. So you may still have to use a long pool brush to occasionally brush off the walls of your pool. You can do this just before you send out the robot, so it picks up all the dirt.

Can you leave Aquabot X2 in the pool?

Aquabot X2 cleans for 3 hours and turns off, after which you will pull it out, empty the filter baskets and clean it out with a spray hose. You can leave the robot in the pool if you schedule an automatic clean session, otherwise it shouldn’t be left in the pool.

Final thoughts

Pool robots are obviously not built equal, but if you want a budget pool cleaner to maintain your small or mid-sized pool, the Aquabot X2 is a good option. It has a good design and great at cleaning pools, plus it also an affordable price tag, which will save you some money. Aquabot X2 is a good buy, but if you’d like something of a stronger build quality, consider other options like the Dolphin Nautilus CC (for 33 ft pools) or Aquabot Breeze IQ (for 50 ft in-ground/above-ground pools).
