Aqua Products Evo614iq Review

Last Updated on March 13, 2022

One of the major downsides of owning a pool is having to clean it. And for many pool owners, pool cleaning is an awful chore.

Thankfully, robotic pool cleaners promise to take the hard work of manual pool cleaning by automating the process while you sit back, relax and enjoy your pool. Unfortunately, not all of them live up to their promises, leading to the never-ending search for the perfect pool robot.

Finding a pool robot that is reliable, cleans amazingly well, comes at a good price, can be both tiring and challenging, especially with the tons of options available. A relatively new pool robot for in-ground pools that has recently caught my attention is the Aqua products Evo 614 iQ. Let’s find out if it’s worth the hype.

Let’s take a closer look

How does Aqua products Evo 614 iQ work?

To effectively tackle pool cleaning, the Aqua products Evo 614 iQ is equipped with a dual traction motor that efficiently propels the robot. And while the robot drives around the pool, the dual high-speed rotating brushes make contact with pool surfaces, it agitates pool surfaces to dislodge all forms of dirt and debris.

As the dirt comes off, the robot’s internal pump with a powerful vacuum technology sucks in debris-filled water which is passed through the filtration system, the debris particles are trapped while neat, crystal-clear water is released.

The filtration system of the Aqua products Evo 614 iQ comprises a large top-loading mesh basket with multiple layers to effectively trap all sorts of pool grime including silt, algae, insects, leaves, twigs, stones, etc.

While the pool cleaner robot is hard at work, the dual traction provides excellent grip on slippery pool surfaces. Aqua products Evo 614 iQ also comes with a 60 feet long tangle-free swivel cable which ensures seamless movement while supplying the much-needed power to the robot.

The swivel technology ensures the cord never tangles, even as the pool robot makes smooth turns throughout the cleaning. Finally, Aqua products Evo 614 iQ comes with a control panel with which you control the robot. The control panel has a few buttons for setting up the robot, selecting cleaning modes, and generally controlling the robot.

Key Features of the Aqua products Evo

Drive system: to effectively clean pool surfaces, a robotic pool cleaner should be able to adequately counter underwater friction and intelligently navigate the pool. With the dual traction motor of the Evo 614iQ, the robot is able to effortlessly drive around the pool, it’s also excellent at wall climbing up to the waterline. And to increase efficiency, it also uses signals to intelligently avoid obstacles.

Scrubbing mechanism: the Evo 614 iQ is equipped with two patent-pending brushes, one in front and the other one behind. With these, the robot goes over every section of the pool twice, making sure no debris was left behind. The tracks independently rotate each brush, and a rear water-flow outlet makes maneuvering a breeze.

Filtration system: every top-notch robotic pool cleaner has a top-notch filtration system, the Aqua products Evo 614iQ is no different. It comes with a multi-layer filter basket that keeps dirt and debris contained. With strong suction, the robot sucks in dirt-filled water and shoots out pure, sparkling, and dirt-free water.

Performance

It’s quite obvious that a lot of thought went into designing and building the Aqua products Evo 614 iQ robotic cleaner. It does a phenomenal job of cleaning large in-ground pools of any surface type, the Evo 614 iQ robotic pool cleaner is also able to effectively climb pool walls, and it cleans up to the waterline. The large filter basket is able to contain a lot of pool debris, it even traps sand, insects, tiny stones, leaves, and all sorts of pool contaminants.

Another great feature of this robotic pool cleaner that works amazingly well is the tangle-less swivel cable. No matter how swiftly the robot turns, and the very complex turns it makes, the power cord never tangles or gets in the way of the robot. Aqua products Evo 614 iQ also has an intelligent adaptive logic control system that scans the pool for obstacles and debris, it tremendously improves efficiency. Also, the robot has a wireless remote control function, via the iAqualink mobile app, and you can’t control it with just a single swipe from your smartphone.

Limitations

As with other robotic pool cleaners out there, you do expect the Aqua products Evo 614 iQ to have a few limitations, right? Well, it does have a few limitations, but fortunately, neither of the drawbacks are actually dealbreakers. First, the robot is great at pool cleaning and can climb walls, but it’s still unable to clean pool steps, which is not an unusual limitation for a robotic pool cleaner.

Secondly, the Aqua products Evo 614 iQ is a smart pool robot with a mobile app, but it does have a scheduling feature. This is certainly something you’d expect, but unfortunately, there isn’t any option to schedule daily or weekly cleaning sessions with this robot. And lastly, the mobile app is very limited in what it can do, and it doesn’t always work very smoothly.

Ease of set up and use

Most robotic pool cleaners are easy to set up and control, and I can say the same for the Aqua products pool cleaner. It’s as easy as plug-and-play. You simply have to plug in the cables to the right places, hit the start button, and watch the robot go to work.

This robotic pool cleaner comes with a control box with buttons for controlling the robot, and you’ll have to plug a part of the cable into the control box (it has no display or screen readers). Before you hit the “START” button, it’s important to gently lower the robot into the pool first, and let it sink to the bottom of the pool. Place all the floating cables in the water, and then push the “START” button.

You can take a look at the quick start guide to see a complete process.

Aqua products Evo 614 iQ robotic cleaner has two cleaning modes: Floor only (1 hr 30 mins) and Floor, Wall, Waterline (2 hr 30 mins). The default cleaning mode is Floor, Wall, Waterline, you can change it anytime to suit your needs.

After each cleaning cycle, you have to gently remove the robot from the pool by gently pulling on the floating cable until you can reach the robot’s handle, grab the handle and lift the robot out of the pool. Ensure that you never pull the robot out of the pool with the cable, because doing this can damage the cable.

Ongoing Maintenance

To get the best value out of the Evo 614 iQ robotic pool cleaner, you do have to put in some work in the way of maintenance. First, it’s recommended that you never leave the robotic pool cleaner in the swimming pool for too long. The robot should be removed from the pool after every cleaning cycle, and never lift the robot by the cable, always use the robot handle instead.

After every cleaning session, the filter basket should be emptied and gently rinsed out using a garden hose. Endeavor to untangle the cable and leave it out to dry before storage. Do not store the pool cleaner in direct sunlight, and store it in a cool, dry place, away from inclement weather.

With continuous usage, you will need to replace some parts of the robot. For instance, the scrubbing brushes, filter basket, and tracks may need to be replaced over time. Prompt replacement of the worn parts ensures longevity and keeps the robot performing at its best at all times.

Extra Purchases and ongoing costs

While you won’t need to make any extra purchases to set up the Aqua products Evo 614 iQ robotic pool cleaner, you can decide to get the optional caddy for storage purposes. Replacement parts are also something to think of, because even as the pool robot comes with a 2-year limited warranty, it doesn’t cover parts like the filter basket, brushes, and drive motor.

These parts will need to be purchased and replaced by the owner of the robot. But the good news is that these parts only need replacement once in a very long time, maybe once in 6 months, 1 year or even 2 years. This generally depends on how often you use the robot.

A couple of alternatives to consider

Finding the right robotic pool cleaner for your pool is not always easy, especially with several pool cleaning robots available. So, I included a couple more pool robots that are great alternatives to the Aqua products Evo 614 iQ. If it happens that the Evo 614iQ robotic cleaner doesn’t exactly check all the boxes for you, then consider the following automatic pool vacuums.

First is the Aiper Cordless robotic pool cleaner. It’s a cheaper alternative to the Evo and perfect for above-ground pools of up to 35 ft. This robotic pool cleaner is cordless and has an in-built 5000mAh rechargeable battery that powers the robot for up to 90 minutes after 4-6 hours of charging time. Aiper is a simple and smart pool robot with a 1-year worry-free warranty.

Another alternative product that actually offers much more than the Aqua product Evo 614 iQ is the Dolphin Quantum robotic pool cleaner. Dolphin is one of the leading brands in the pool robot industry, and they do have a line-up of excellent pool robots. Dolphin Quantum is a premium pool robot with all the exciting features you’d want in an automatic pool machine, and of course, it has a steep price tag.

While there is no scheduling feature in the Evo 614 iQ, the Quantum pool cleaner has a weekly scheduler which is great for cleaning your pool ahead of time, plus intense pool scrubbing including wall and waterline cleaning, and superior filtration.

You can read more on this model in our Dolphin Quantum review.

FAQs

When was the Aqua products Evo released?

The Aqua product Evo 614 iQ is a fairly new robotic pool cleaner. It was only released early last year, 2021.

How long should I run my pool cleaner each day?

This will actually depend on how dirty your pool gets. If your pool gets really dirty, and you use it every day, then you should at least run the floor, wall and waterline cleaning cycle of about 2 hr 30 mins every day. Otherwise, you may need to run it for only 1 hour every day or every other day.

Can I operate it when cleaning?

Yes, you can operate your robot when it’s cleaning. This can be done via the iAqualink app. From the app, you can instruct the robot to move in a certain direction. You can also change the cleaning mode, start or stop the robot from the app.

Does this robot follow a random path, or does it map and intelligently cover the pool?

The Aqua product Evo 614 iQ automated robot vacuum doesn’t map the pool, it doesn’t have the capacity to create intelligent maps. It follows a random cleaning path and moves around the pool until it has covered every path of the pool. This doesn’t sound very efficient, but the robot actually does a great job. It covers every inch of the pool and removes every visible dirt. If you have a very dirty pool, then you will need to run it more than once to thoroughly clean the pool.

Does the App provide a way to manually drive the robot for targeted cleaning?

No, the app doesn’t allow you to change the direction of the robot.

Final thoughts

The Aqua product Evo is a good option if you want a great robotic pool cleaner for the money to keep your in-ground pool clean. This pool cleaner will save you hours a week, especially if you tend to have leaves, dirt and silt sitting at the bottom of your pool. The Evo 614 iQ is much less expensive than most high-end robotic pool cleaners. It also does the job perfectly and provides cleaning results comparable to more expensive robotic pool cleaner models. It’s simply an amazing gadget for your in-ground pool.
